Union Cabinet approves India – Singapore MoU
Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has given its approval to the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in the field of Industrial Property Cooperation between Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion under the Ministry of Commerce & Industry and the Intellectual Property Office of Singapore (IPOS), Ministry of Law, Government of Singapore
The MoU will enhance bilateral cooperation activities in the arena of Industrial Property Rights of Patents, Trademarks and Industrial Designs. It is intended to give a boost to innovation, creativity and technological advancement in both regions. The Priority initiatives under the MoU would be:
• Exchange of best practices, experiences and knowledge on Intellectual Property awareness among the public, businesses and educational institutions of both countries
• Exchange of experts specialized in the field of intellectual property
• Exchange and dissemination of best practices, experiences and knowledge on IP with the industry, universities, R & D organizations and Small and Medium Enterprises
• Cooperation in the development of automation and implementation of modernization projects
• Partnership in IP-related training for local IP and business communities
Sikkim and Himachal Pradesh are Close to’Open Defecation Free’ States
Sikkim and Himachal Pradesh have the maximum percentage of villages that are ‘Open Defecation Free’ according to the criteria of the Swachh Bharat Mission.
Other better performing States with village-level achievements are Haryana and Meghalaya with just over 41 per cent each, Gujarat (37.58 per cent), Maharashtra (28.33 per cent), Chhattisgarh (24.91 per cent) and Rajasthan (23.83 per cent).
Three cities in Karnataka — coastal Mangaluru, Udupi and Mysuru — have been declared “open defecation free” this week in the survey conducted among 75 cities across the country
Mysuru again, after it topped the list of “clean cities” for two consecutive years is the cleanest city.

Cabinet approves Administrative and Financial Sanction towards the implementation of the Project SAKSHAM
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has approved ‘Project SAKSHAM’, a New Indirect Tax Network (Systems Integration) of the Central Board of Excise and Customs (CBEC).
It will help in:
• Implementation of Goods and Services Tax (GST),
• Extension of the Indian Customs Single Window Interface for Facilitating Trade (SWIFT) and
• Other taxpayer-friendly initiatives under Digital India and Ease of Doing Business of Central Board of Excise and Customs.
Government Decides to Raise EPFO Investment in ETF from 5 Per Cent to 10 Per Cent
The Government has decided to raise the Employees Provident Fund ( EPF) investment in Exchange Traded Funds from present 5 per cent to 10 per cent.
Shri Bandaru Dattatreya, the Minister of State(IC) for Labour and Employment said that the decision has been taken considering the good returns in ETF investment.
As per earlier decision EPFO is currently investing 5 per cent of the total accretion in Exchange Traders Fund (ETF).
